I remember one time when you couldn't get the paper because people would grab them up quickly. Now, they are all over the place. People know is isn't about Bay RIdge, so they don't take them. I don't know why Bay Ridge businesses advertise in them, I would guess about 80 to 90% of ads are outside of Bay RIdge.
Anyway, enough about a paper that has Bay Ridge in their title and isn't about Bay Ridge. The painted lines. At first I thought it was a crappy job that they did. And as I looked at it some more, I realized though the job looks incomplete, there isn't anything wrong with them other than they look a little weird. The pics in the paper make you think people are blocked from crossing the streets, but if you look at pics from Google maps, you can see there is plenty of room in the crosswalk. They are too big to begin with.
Pic below makes it look like lines should be longer and were forgotten. This is
SW corner at 78th st and 4th ave. 5th Ave would be right and 3rd Ave left.
Same corner from other side of street. Plenty of room to cross, there's a lamppost in
the way if it was wider. 3rd ave is to right and 5th Ave to left here.
This is the other crosswalk going across 4th ave. A car parked makes it look like
the car is blocking part of crosswalk. 3rd ave is at top and 5th ave at bottom.
Same pic from across street. Plenty of room to cross. It's different car
but you can still see lamppost on corner blocks people, not car.
How the picture is taken makes a big difference. I don't even think this is a story.
Probably the only people who care about this are the ones who did the story, trying to
make a big deal out of a small thing. Not even a Bay Ridge paper.
